fighting for eternity

“On the other side of greatness is love.”

Reading through all of Psalms, I learned more about King David and King Solomon as I traversed through the verses. I could imagine the pain King David was going through, the limitations he was pushed to that he started writing Psalms to appeal to the Lord. I too was pushed to my limitations, so I went through Psalms in order to exalt the Lord and submit to Him.

It took me several hours to read all of Psalms. I was determined to get through all of the Psalms, drinking only water to sustain myself as I sat on my mattress and pored over the Bible. I blocked out all other distractions from my mind and focused on the voice of King David guiding me through his journey. He fought many battles, he had many enemies, and he needed protection, he needed help, he need to be saved by the Lord.

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” - Psalm 18:2.

I once went through the entirety of Psalms before, in high school. Driven to succeed, I wanted to appeal to the Lord and be uplifted. I attribute much of my success in my earlier years to Psalms, to being in the Lord’s graces. I submitted my life to God, and he awarded me.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” - Lamentations 3:22.

It is morning, and I am reveling in the Word, letting the Holy Spirit wash over me. Guided by the Spirit of truth, I reflect on the journey I’ve been on in the past year. Coming back to Christ, defeating sins and the Enemy, and walking in the light instead of darkness. I was sanctified further, and I will never go back to the days of darkness.

There is beauty in eternity. A beauty that can’t be seen with the eyes, a beauty that comes from the promise of an enduring love that transcends the transience of this impermanent and imperfect world. So I focused on what is unseen, not on what is seen, for what is seen is transient and what is unseen lasts forever.

I wanted to fight for eternity; to be further embraced for the forever God who offers me the promise of eternal life. When this life passes, another will begin, a grander and greater one promised by the presence of the Lord. There is no ending, just another beginning.

And with the close of one chapter and the start of another, I open my Bible to Psalm 19 — for the Lord is perfect, in his everlasting glory.

“The Law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandments of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.” - Psalms 19:7-9.
