Remade

I remember the first time I felt rain. I was with a boy, whose name I no longer remember. He had eyes the color of the clouds that terrorized the sky that day. When I looked into his eyes, I remember thinking,

This is what it feels like, to burn for someone.

Even the cascading showers couldn’t quench the flames ascending within me.

I wanted to ask him as he held my hand as we raced through the rain, skipping over the deep puddles,

Do you burn for me too?

With an unspoken question at the tip of my tongue, I open my mouth to speak, he turned around and laughed at the sight of my mouth agape, catching hundreds of falling droplets,

And I swallowed down my words, and laughed too, and we started dancing in the open air, with our mouths open wide to catch the precious water that was healing us, washing over our invisible wounds, and so,

We celebrated, as the earth remade us.

And our love remade the world.
